The Value of Blogging - Charlotte SEO Blog

Blogging can be super important. While I love using Tumblr, that isn’t quite what I’m talking about here. I mean blogging for your business. Now granted I’m a bit biased, seeing as how blogging for businesses is what gets me paid, but I started writing blogs because I understand how much they can do for someone who has an important service that needs to get out to people. Blogging on your business’ website can do so much for you and your service that you are rendering that when you take everything into account, it seems almost foolish to not do it.

Blogging can help to boost your rating on different sites like Google or Bing. Those search engines that have made everyone’s research papers easier are also where most people look to find a business now. This is even true locally. While a lot of us remember having to thumb through the phone book and hope that the person we called was competent and reliable, when’s the last time any of us did that? Now just a couple of quick key strokes can tell us everything we need to know about the person we are asking for help. It can tell us how long they’ve been working, how reliable they are, their rates, their hours, how many pets they have, and any number of other odd things. I mean, let’s face it, some people just don’t know when to stop sharing stuff online. No one cares if my cat is snoring while I work, but sometimes I tell people anyway. It’s harmless, but it might just harm how professional your business looks depending on what you’re trying to sell.

By blogging on your business’ website, you have the opportunity to add a large amount of keywords to your site which will allow you to jump to the top of the list on those search engines. It’s kind of like when your teacher picked you to be line leader in elementary school, but a lot more profitable. Even adding one or two a week with carefully chosen words can give you a better chance to be seen than other sites. That’s all we want in the end right? We want to be the ones people go to for their needs. It’s almost like a no-brainer when you think about it. Just be careful about the words you put down on those sites and you should be fine. After all, how loud and distracting the cat is doesn’t matter to someone who just wants their heater fixed.

Google Analytics - Kannapolis Web Design

If you have had your computer for any amount of time, the chances are that you know what a powerhouse Google as a company is. It has managed to worm its way into the common vernacular of just about every person we may know. Even my father, who is almost 75 years old, uses the term “Google it” when he wants to find something out. This is the same man who, a few months ago, I had to help him get into his email because he somehow got signed out and didn’t know how to get back in.

My point is that almost everyone we may come into contact with will know in some way what Google is. Nearly every person I do business with has a Gmail account and uses Google Chrome as their web browser. Sometimes it can seem almost frightening just how much Google provides to us on a daily basis, but at the same time this means that they are likely the best at whatever it is they are doing. When you own a company, you certainly want something like that working for you and never against you.

Google Analytics is no exception to the fact that Google provides some of the best services to us in regards to the internet. Although the little dinosaur game on Chrome and the artwork for different days of importance are wonderful, what I am talking about is something that is much more substantial. The incredible things that Google gives us in regards to helping our business are almost too many to name, but I will do my best. For this, I will indeed start with Google Analytics.

Google Analytics is a “freemium web analytics” service that is provided through this company. This is, as you can expect from a company that is worth so much, a brilliant and wonderful thing. Freemium means that the basic service is free, but the premium services are only available if you pay for them. If you go on your phone and see a free app that says “requires in app purchases”, it is rather similar. It’s really the web analytics that we are interested in here.

If you haven’t previously heard of Google Analytics, then be prepared to be singing its praises by the end of the next article you read. That is, at least, if you read them in the proper order.

Podcasts have been growing in popularity over the past decade or so and are used for many different purposes. Podcasts are audio files that are normally updated at regular intervals and focus around one topic. Lately, there have been story podcasts that have boomed in popular culture such as Welcome To Nightvale. Due to the overwhelming response from fans that it received, there have now been two books published and the voice actors and writers have gone on tours across the country due to the demand. Other podcasts bring older fiction and non-fiction to the modern public. Some have to do with an analysis of older works and how they are still relevant to today’s world, such as the Baker Street Babes, which speaks about Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and the many incarnations of it.
A couple of businesses have begun to recognize how useful podcasts can be to get their message out to the general public. The wonderful thing about podcasts is they don’t have to be any specific length since it is all audio. People can listen to them without having to watch a video along with it and they don’t have to read all of the information. This means multi-tasking is something that can be easily achieved when it comes to podcasts.
Even if you don’t think you have enough to talk about for a podcast, you can always figure out a schedule that works for you. Releasing one episode every other week or even every month isn’t uncommon when it comes to this medium. People can simply subscribe to automatically receive your newest episodes and enjoy them as they come out.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a recording studio either. While many podcasts are done in either professional or semi-professional studios, others are done in bedrooms, empty offices, or any other number of places that you can put a voice recorder. Many computers come equipped with a voice recorder, and even if yours doesn’t, they are not expensive to buy from an office store. Listen to a few podcasts and think about what you could say if you were to start one. It certainly never hurts to try something new like this, so go ahead and give it a whirl!

Having so many options in the world can be rather confusing. Meta Descriptions and Marketing

Meta descriptions are extremely important to your website and no, I’m not being meta about meta descriptions. See, meta descriptions are like flavor text in Cards Against Humanity. Do you know when you search for something on line and under the website or article name you see that smaller text that shows why you got a hit with that site from your search? That, my friends, is the meta description. It can be thought of as a short snippet or preview to your webpage or article. It’s longer than a headline, but much shorter than the entire article.

Meta descriptions are important to catch people’s attention in their search. It’s used a lot like the first couple of sentences in a book. If you were to open a book and read the first sentence and have it be boring or non-sensical, you’d probably not want to continue reading through the rest of the page, let alone the entire novel. Meta descriptions work the same. How many times have you been searching for something online, looked at the text below the link, and not found what you were looking for? Now, it’s very possible that this article or webpage had exactly what you had been looking for. However, a bad meta description made you overlook the page and you lost out on the find of a lifetime. This is exactly what we don’t want to happen to you!

You have little time to capture the attention of a possible client on a search engine result page, or a SERP as they are commonly referred to. This means that your meta description needs to be short, to the point, and yet interesting enough to keep the attention of the reader. This is normally a nice and easy process to insert into your webpage, especially depending on the program that you are using for your site. Now, do remember that meta descriptions aren’t used as a ranking signal, but that doesn’t mean they’re not important! The meta description, as I said before, will highly influence the rate of traffic to your webpage from a search engine that brought up your page. The Value of Blogging - Part 1

Blogging! Everyone loves a good blog! Think about one of your favorite subjects and I’m sure it has a blog. When you have free time and are just scrolling through the internet, what do you look at and read about? Well, whatever it is, there are doubtlessly hundreds of blogs about the subject! Maybe you prefer watching YouTube videos about it and that’s okay because do you know what that is? It’s a video blog! Yep, it’s still a blog, you haven’t escaped. The point is, blogging has become a huge part of the internet and that means you should jump on this bandwagon too!

Having a blog can be a lot of work. Some people make their entire livelihoods off of blogs and video blogs. It can take hours and hours of work every day to get a blog up to snuff before it’s put onto a webpage. Other people prefer to just jot down their ideas, maybe even in a nonsensical way, and call it a blog. It doesn’t really matter which kind you run and that’s the beauty of a blog! It is yours and yours alone so you get to make up all the rules. There aren’t many other things that you get this kind of freedom with, so if I were you, I’d enjoy it while I could.

Of course, up until now I’ve been speaking about personal blogs. You may have a blog on a site such as tumblr or livejournal and find yourself very happy with it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter how much you enjoy your personal blog in regards to your company. While you may speak periodically about your business on your personal blog, it’s rare that it is the focus of your writing. Most people have a personal blog to get away from having to write about their company. That is why I recommend having two blogs.

Having a blog on your company’s website is a quick and easy way to feel connected to your customers. Many people enjoy when a business has a blog because it shows that there are real humans behind the company. In fact, if you stay where you are for a few minutes, I’ll explain just how much having a company blog can and will help you in the future. Don’t worry, you don’t need to move. Just keep reading.

The Trend of the Video Blog

Since you’re reading a blog right now, I’m going to take a guess that you know what they are. If not, I’m sure you’ll catch up rather quickly. Obviously, most blogs are textual entries onto a website or part of a website that is dedicated specifically to the writings. However, there is a trend that is popping up more and more. It is the trend of the video blog.

Video blogs, or vlogs as they are affectionately known, have been slowly growing in popularity over the past few years. They can be posted either on the company page or on video sharing sites such as YouTube. Some companies post them on both to ensure that they will be seen by as many people as possible. Encouraging people who watch your company’s video blogs to subscribe to your YouTube channel can help drum up more support and traffic to your videos which is always a good thing.

Video blogs are a wonderful tool to use when it comes to spreading information for your company. Unlike text, a video helps to reduce the risk of someone reading something in a tone or voice that you didn’t intend to occur. Besides, people normally like to see a face to match to words they are hearing or reading. To some, there is something cold and detached about words on a computer screen as opposed to a video where they can hear the information you want to pass out.

Video blogs also help some people who may have difficulty reading. There are multiple learning disabilities which make it easier for people to learn things by listening than by reading. Having a video blog can help people who experience this, and including a transcript may help those with sensory disorders or hearing problems. There are many ways to make your information more accessible to everyone, and video blogs certainly help.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you what kind of blog you want to have on your website. You may choose one or the other, or you may have both. Who doesn’t like social media, am I right?? Okay, so a lot of us don’t actually like it, but we still use it. Funny, really, but it’s one of the best ways to keep up with the important things in life. We get to see our loved ones, new babies, adorable kitten videos, what that weird kid you went to high school with had for dinner last night, the critical things we need to know. I’m not talking about click bait or the latest Buzzfeed video, no, I’m talking about something that could have an actual impact on our lives. While what is going on to those we love is influential, sometimes we get to see something we were looking for. We’re just scrolling along when all of a sudden, there it is. The one service you had been hoping to find for months. Maybe it’s a doctor, maybe it’s a type of jewelry that you wanted, maybe it’s a way to remind you of important dates, but there it is. We follow link after link until we are happy with what we found. Being on the internet normally gives us a short attention span and that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you can catch someone’s eye with your beautiful advert posted right in the middle of a news feed.
